Join us as a volunteer Building Manager

Do you have experience of building/property management, risk management or safety?

By taking on the role of Building Manager you will use these skills to make sure we have a place to meet and operate our shop, both directly and indirectly supporting our vision to help all girls know they can do anything.


What is the purpose of the role?
In this role you will support us by making sure our building is a safe, secure and pleasant place to use.


Who can do this role?
Any adult with relevant experience.


Some of what you will do:
This is a management role. The post holder is not expected to carry out maintenance tasks themselves.
 Management and oversight of the Bath Division HQ .
 Ensuring all routine maintenance and monitoring is carried out to the required standard.
 Creation of a long term maintenance and development plan in conjunction with the Division Executive.
 Management of any major works, including appointing contractors.
 Liaison with the landlord and other occupiers of the building.
 Chair the HQ Management Committee which meets twice per year.


Our property (Girlguiding Bath HQ)
St Michaels Church House in Walcot Street is a Grade 2* building which was refurbished in 2004/2005. Girlguiding Bath has long-term lease on a ground floor and first floor rooms which it uses for a shop, meeting rooms and storage space. The rooms are fitted out for our needs and in a good decorative state. The remainder of the building is used as a restaurant under a separate lease with the landlord.


What training and support do you get?
 Reimbursement of agreed expenses.
 A clear complaints procedure to help sort out any problems or
disagreements.
 Support from fellow volunteers.
 Training through the annual property manager’s conference.


What skills do you need?
 Relevant experience such as in building management, project management, risk management or safety.
 Good organisation skills.
 Ability to communicate clearly
 Problem solving skills.
 An eye for detail.

We ask all Girlguiding volunteers to complete recruitment checks.


This is a 3-year appointment, subject to 6 monthly review, and with the option to extend further by mutual agreement.
