If you are  a unit helper or young leader, you could gain your Leadership Qualification as you go along volunteering with your unit.  This will help you develop the skills you need to lead and help the girls to grow into confident young women.

If you have a unit helper or young leader in your unit who you think would make a fantastic leader, please encourage them to consider doing their LQ and help point them in the right direction to get started.

Here’s how it works here in Bath Division…

How to get started

Step 1

Contact your District Commissioner – she will be able to explain what’s involved and answer any questions you might have about the Leadership Qualification and whether it is right for you

Step 2

Your District Commissioner will put you in touch with Liz Ireland, our Division LQ Coordinator

Step 3

Liz will assign a mentor to help you through your LQ and give you a copy of the LQ workbook

Step 4

You will meet with your mentor several times. She will support you through your LQ and help you collect evidence about all the great things you are doing with your unit

How long will it take?

There is no set time for completion of the Leadership qualification, but it generally takes about six months to complete.

Young leaders can start working on their LQ at age 16, but they cannot become a qualified leader until they are 18. We know that young leaders often have lots of other committments including exam revision, so we recommend starting your LQ early so you can fit it in around your studies and complete your LQ before moving away if you go on to university.

What training and support will I get?

Everyone who undertakes our Leadership qualification is assigned a mentor – a qualified leader who will guide you through the syllabus and support you by answering any questions you may have.

You will also have access to elearning and face to face trainings to develop your skills.

If you have any questions about the LQ, or if you are a unit leader with questions about how you can encourage and support volunteers in your unit who would like to do their LQ, please contact your District Commissioner or email Liz Ireland at qualifications@girlguidingbath.org.uk.
