57th Bath Guides Volunteer at Bath Race for Life

Girls and leaders from 57th Bath Guides volunteered at the cancer research Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life on Sunday 11th June.

They had the privilege of meeting Stephanie Millward and we even got to hold some of her Paralympic medals. They also learnt an interesting fact that the Paralympic medals have tiny brass beads inside them – a different quantity for the different coloured medals so that blind athletes can tell the difference when they shake them.

Brenda Scott, Area Events Manager for Cancer Research UK, wrote to the girls to express her thanks for their help:

“I just wanted to express my grateful thanks for volunteering at Bath Race for Life yesterday. Without our volunteer support, hosting these events would be an impossible task, so you should be proud that you and your Guides have helped over 1,600 participants raise £111,000 that will one day enable us to successfully treat all types of cancer. We could not have done it without your support, so sincerely thank you.

During my speech to participants prior to the start, I mentioned about the many volunteers present and a round of applause was received, so thanks for giving up your valuable time to help make their day so special, they really appreciated it. Feedback from participants after the race was brilliant and they all loved the event.

Thank you again, it was a great pleasure to work with you all and I really hope your Guides are able to support us again.”
